With the game’s release quickly approaching, Activision finally decided to reveal Call of Duty 4‘s multiplayer component to the press yesterday. And after spending the afternoon shooting our friends and colleagues under the cover of the dark anonymity of a Hollywood nightclub, we must say the game is looking sharp — developer Infinity Ward has an entirely separate team working on the multiplayer component of the game, and that’s reflected in both depth and scope.
One thing that separates COD4 from other shooters is the ability to keep a persistent profile that gains experience and levels through gameplay — sort of like a role-playing game, but with more headshots. You rise through the ranks of the army, starting as a lowly grunt and eventually work your way up to senior officer positions. It’s not entirely unlike what’s found in Rainbow Six: Vegas: in addition to customizable weapon loadouts, COD4 uses a class system, and even lets you create your own custom class.

Hopefully this is better than the previous titles.
